Coatings Application Warranty

EB Painting. Warrants the owner of the below listed property that all coating application work performed by EB Painting, was (is) completed according to professional industry standards and is under warranty to remain failure free under the following terms and conditions:

  • All interiors coating applied to plaster drywall and wood surfaces shall be warranted for a period of 5 years from the completion of work.
  • Exterior wood, hardboard, stucco and masonry substrate coatings shall be warranted for a period of 3 years from the completion of work.
  • Metal and iron substrate coating application shall be warranted for a period of 2 years from completion of work.
  • Exterior stains and clear finishes shall be warranted for a period of 1 year from completion of work.
  • Decks and Fences can not be warrantied. Decks are horizontal surfaces that people, pets and furniture live on. Water also pools on horizontal surfaces and we can not prevent coating failure. Fences are also vulnerable to weather and will need regular maintenance.
  • In the event of a claimed breach of this warranty, the purchaser shall deliver to EB Painting, not more than 30 days after the discovery of the defect, written notice of the defect, and the date it was discovered.
  • EB Painting & Decorating will inspect the area within 7 days of notification of potential defects.
  • If inspection determines that the defect falls within the scope of this warranty, EB Painting shall provide replacement service to correct the defect.

Any corrective service or additional material shall not extend this warranty, but the remaining warranty period shall continue in effect and be applicable under the original terms and conditions.

This warranty is not applicable under the following conditions:

  • Any damage to stucco or masonry coating, which may occur due to ongoing, concealed deterioration. This may manifest as efflorescence, a white chalky leaching of salts to the surface, accompanied by a crumbling of the stucco or masonry surface.
  • Any rental interior properties due to tenant abuse.
  • Coating failure due to structural damage caused by standing water, inadequate drainage, improperly installed guttering or guttering in need of repair/replacement, sprinklers or window unit air conditioners causing continuous water saturation, leaking and/or pooling in/on or around the affected area (s).
  • Coating failure due to wood rot, termites, carpenter bees, carpenter ants, or any other insect caused damage.
  • Coating failure due to structural alterations, additions, repairs or normal shifting and settling of buildings and substrate.
  • Coating failure caused by unchecked mold or mildew growth.
  • Coating failure caused by roof and/or plumbing leaks.
  • Coating failure resulting from: caustic chemicals, fire, acts of God, natural disasters such as windstorms, flood, earthquakes, lightning, mud slides, etc.
  • Coating failure resulting from previous coat breakdown.
  • Coating failure on horizontal surfaces, such as decks and patios. Fencing not painted on all sides.

This warranty is extended to the original purchaser of services only and is not transferable.

Cabinet Painting Warranty Policy

Coverage: We provide a 3-Year Warranty on our cabinet painting workmanship, effective from the date of project completion. This warranty covers peeling, blistering, or flaking paint on cabinet surfaces caused by our team’s improper preparation or application. In other words, if the new cabinet finish fails by losing adhesion or otherwise deteriorates due to a workmanship defect within three years, we will repair the affected areas at no cost to you. This coverage applies to cabinets refinished by EB Painting in normal residential or commercial use conditions.

Exclusions: This warranty does not cover damage or finish failures resulting from causes beyond our control, including but not limited to:

  • Normal Wear and Tear: Minor scratches, scuffs, chips or dents from everyday use of cabinets (e.g. around handles or high-traffic areas).
  • Impact or Abuse: Any damage caused by impact, abuse, misuse, or accidental damage (for example, hitting the cabinet with heavy objects, or using the cabinets beyond normal kitchen or office use).
  • Moisture & Heat: Damage from excessive moisture, steam, or heat – for instance, warping or finish deterioration due to water leaks, placement of kettles/coffee makers or other heat-producing appliances directly under cabinets without proper ventilation.
  • Structural or Substrate Issues: Failures caused by the expansion or contraction of the underlying wood/MDF due to humidity or temperature changes (which can lead to hairline cracks at joints or movement in panels), or pre-existing issues with the cabinet construction.
  • Previous Coatings: Any peeling or failure of earlier paint or coatings applied before our work (if those underlying layers release, they can take our new finish with them).
  • Improper Cleaning or Chemicals: Damage from using abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals on the finished cabinets. (Only gentle cleaning with mild soap and a soft cloth is recommended.)
  • Unauthorized Modifications: Alterations or repairs to the cabinets by persons other than EB Painting after our project completion (e.g. another contractor installing hardware and chipping the paint, or the client attempting touch-ups with non-matching paint) will void the warranty in those areas.

Claims Process: If you notice an issue with your cabinet finish that you believe is covered by this warranty, please follow these steps to file a claim:

  1. Notify Us Promptly: Send written notice (email is acceptable) to EB Painting within 30 days of discovering the problem. Include a description of the issue, the date you first noticed it, and photographs if possible.
  2. Inspection: We will respond and schedule an inspection of the cabinets. An EB Painting representative will examine the affected areas (usually within 7 days of your claim) to determine if the issue is due to a workmanship defect covered by this warranty.
  3. Resolution: If the issue is deemed warranty-covered, EB Painting will repair, re-prep, and repaint the specific areas of failure at our expense. We will schedule the warranty work at a mutually convenient time and work to remedy the problem promptly. (In performing warranty work, we will attempt to match the color and sheen as closely as possible, but note that some natural aging or batch differences may occur.)
  4. No Charge: There is no cost to you for warranted repairs. However, if the inspection finds that the cause is not covered (e.g. impact damage or other exclusions), we will provide a quote for fixing the issue as a separate service if you wish.

Term: This cabinet refinishing warranty is valid for 3 years from the project completion date. The warranty term is not extended by any warranty work performed (the coverage still expires 3 years from the original completion). Projects must be paid in full for the warranty to take effect. If a warranted issue is repaired, the remaining term of the warranty continues to apply to the repaired area – we stand behind our work, but this warranty does not renew or roll over with repairs.

Transferability: This warranty is offered to the original client and for the original cabinets refinished at the property. It is not transferable to new owners of the property or to cabinets that have been moved to a different location. (If you are selling your property within the warranty period, please contact us – while the formal warranty is not automatically transferred, we may assist the new owner with any immediate coating issues as a courtesy or offer a maintenance package.)

Interior Painting Warranty Policy

Coverage: EB Painting offers a 5-Year Limited Workmanship Warranty on all interior painting projects. This means we warrant that the paint we apply on your interior walls, ceilings, trim, and other surfaces will not peel, blister, or flake due to improper surface preparation or application techniques for a full five-year period. If any coated interior surface that we painted fails due to our workmanship, we will correct the issue free of charge. Our goal is a long-lasting finish, and this warranty gives you peace of mind that your interiors will stay beautiful.

Exclusions: While we stand behind our work, this interior painting warranty does not cover:

  • Wear and Tear or Accidental Damage: Nail holes, scuffs, dents, or scratches from moving furniture or everyday life are not covered. Minor cosmetic wear (e.g. burnishing of matte paint from frequent touching, or holes from wall hangings) is considered normal use.
  • Moisture or Mold-Related Issues: Damage from roof/window leaks, plumbing failures, excessive humidity, or mold/mildew growth on painted surfaces is not covered, as these are underlying issues unrelated to paint application. (We strongly recommend resolving any moisture problems before painting, and we use mildew-resistant coatings where appropriate.)
  • Structural Shifts or Substrate Cracks: Cracks or joint separation in drywall, plaster, or trim that appear due to building settlement, structural movement, or expansion/contraction are outside the warranty, since the paint will often crack again even after patching if the structure continues to move.
  • Previous Paint Layer Failures: If a prior layer of paint (applied by someone else) beneath our work peels or fails, causing our newly applied layer to come loose, that is not a result of our workmanship. (We do proper prep to mitigate this, but hidden layers can sometimes lose adhesion.)
  • Stains or Bleed-Through: Certain stains (water stains, nicotine, tannin or knot bleed from wood) can sometimes reappear over time. We use appropriate primers to block these, but heavy bleed-through or recurring stains related to the substrate are excluded from warranty coverage.
  • Client-Provided Materials or Unrecommended Conditions: If you insisted on using a specific paint or material against our recommendation, or requested we paint in conditions that violate manufacturer specifications (e.g. extremely low temperatures, high moisture environment without proper paint), issues arising from those factors would not be covered.
  • Alterations Post-Painting: Any damage or changes caused by renovations, installation of fixtures, or work by others after our painting is completed (for example, an electrician cutting into a wall or a contractor scuffing walls during a remodel) are excluded.

Claims Process: To make a warranty claim on interior painting, please follow these steps:

  1. Contact Us in Writing: Email or write to EB Painting within 30 days of noticing a potential paint failure. Provide your name, address, the date of the project, and a description of the issue (photos are very helpful).
  2. Inspection Scheduling: We will get in touch to schedule an inspection. Our team will assess the area of concern to determine the cause of the issue and whether it falls under warranty. This typically happens within a week of your notification.
  3. Determination: After inspection, we will inform you if the issue is covered. If it is a warranted defect (e.g. due to our surface prep or application), we will arrange to perform the necessary repairs. If the issue is not covered (for instance, a leak caused peeling), we’ll explain our findings and can provide an estimate to fix it as a separate matter.
  4. Resolution: For covered claims, EB Painting will repair the affected portion of the work. This could involve re-prepping and repainting the specific area where paint has failed. We will use the same or equivalent paint color and sheen to blend with the surrounding areas. Our aim is to restore the finish to original condition. There is no cost for this service if it’s a valid warranty claim.
  5. Follow-Up: After warranty repairs, we’ll ask you to inspect the corrected work to ensure you are satisfied. The warranty on that particular area will continue for the remainder of the original warranty term.

Term: The interior painting warranty remains in effect for 5 years (60 months) from the completion date of the project. It applies only to the surfaces we painted. The warranty clock starts on the final day of the project and is not reset by any touch-up or repair work. All warranty work itself is guaranteed for the remainder of the original term. Projects must be paid in full to initiate warranty coverage, and this warranty is offered in good faith to the client named on the contract.

Transferability: This interior painting warranty is non-transferable. It applies only to the original customer and the specific property we serviced. If you sell or move from the property, the warranty does not automatically transfer to the new owner. (However, if a problem arises very shortly after a property changes hands, we may review on a case-by-case basis as a courtesy.) To maintain coverage, please do not attempt repaints or repairs on the warranted surfaces by yourself or with another contractor, as that will void this warranty for those areas.

Exterior Painting Warranty Policy

Coverage: Our exterior painting projects are protected by a 3-Year Limited Warranty on workmanship. EB Painting warrants that for three (3) years from the completion of the exterior painting, the applied paint coating will not peel, blister, or excessively crack due to improper preparation or application by our crew. If the exterior paint fails in those ways within the warranty term because of our workmanship, we will fix the affected area at no charge. This warranty covers painted or stained exterior surfaces of your home or building that we serviced – including siding, stucco, eaves, fascia, exterior trim, and doors – under normal weathering conditions. We use high-quality exterior paints to ensure durability, and this warranty is our promise of quality and longevity of our work.

Exclusions: Exterior surfaces endure harsh conditions; thus, certain situations are beyond our control and are not covered by this warranty:

  • Natural Weathering & Elements: Fading or slight chalking of paint due to sun UV exposure or weather over time is natural and not considered a defect (severe or premature breakdown might be, but minor gradual fading is normal). Damage from extreme events like hurricanes, hailstorms, extreme wind, flooding, lightning, or earthquakes (“acts of God”) is not covered.
  • Moisture Damage: Any failure caused by standing water, chronic moisture exposure, or leaks is excluded. For example, if gutters are clogged or fail and water continually soaks the paint, or if there is water ingress behind siding or around windows, resulting damage to paint is outside our warranty.
  • Horizontal Surfaces: As a rule, we do not warrant horizontal or high-wear exterior surfaces (such as decks, patios, porch floors, steps, or handrails) because these face direct exposure to foot traffic and water pooling. Paint or stain on flat surfaces will wear faster. We may apply coatings to these areas at client request, but they are excluded from the 3-year coverage (often such areas may only be covered for a courtesy 1-year period if at all – please refer to your contract if we treated such surfaces).
  • Wood Knots and Stains: Certain natural wood issues like knot bleed (tannins or sap seeping through), or rust stains from nails, can show through paint over time. We prime and block as needed, but re-occurrence of these stains is not considered a workmanship failure.
  • Pre-existing Paint Layers or Substrate Issues: If old layers of paint underneath our work peel off, or if the underlying wood/stucco has dry rot, rust, crumbling, or other structural issues that cause paint failure, those are not covered. (We will inform you of any such concerns before painting if observed.)
  • Mildew or Mold: We use mildewcide additives in exterior paint as appropriate, but given the moist climate in parts of BC, mildew can eventually grow on any surface. Mildew/algae growth or other environmental accumulations on paint are maintenance issues and not covered by warranty. Regular cleaning will help prevent this.
  • Surface Damage or Movement: Cracks that form in surfaces (stucco cracks, wood splitting, caulking separation) after painting can cause paint to split – these often result from building movement, temperature changes, or substrate aging and are not failures of the paint itself. Additionally, any mechanical damage (e.g. impact from tools, ladders, or other trades) is not covered.
  • Client Actions: Any deliberate misuse, or if you (or another service) pressure wash or use harsh chemicals improperly on the painted surfaces causing damage, such issues are excluded. Also, any areas where the client insisted on a specific product or skipped recommended prep steps against our advice would be excluded (this is rare, as we generally require proper prep for warranty jobs).

Claims Process: To request service under this warranty for exterior work, please do the following:

  1. Report the Issue: Contact EB Painting in writing (email is fine) within 30 days of noticing a problem with your exterior paint. Include a description of the issue (e.g. “paint is peeling on the south wall under the eaves”), the date of our project completion, and any photos if available.
  2. Inspection: We will schedule a visit to inspect the affected exterior areas, typically within a week or two (weather permitting, since exterior inspection may need a dry day). Our team will determine if the paint failure is due to our workmanship and covered by this warranty.
  3. Determination & Follow-up: After inspection, we will communicate our findings. If it’s a covered issue (for instance, we find that an area was not primed correctly and is peeling), we will confirm that we will perform the necessary repairs under warranty. If not covered (say, peeling is due to underlying wood rot or a leaking gutter), we’ll explain the cause and can offer a proposal to fix the issue outside of warranty.
  4. Warranty Work: For approved warranty claims, EB Painting will schedule a crew to remedy the issue. We will pressure wash or prep the area as needed, scrape and sand any peeling paint, prime, and repaint the affected spots to restore the finish. We will use the same paint (or an exact match) that was originally used. The repair work will be done at no cost to you.

  1. Completion: Once the touch-up or repair is complete, the area will be back under the original warranty coverage for the remainder of the term. We’ll ask you to verify that the problem has been resolved to your satisfaction.

Term: The exterior painting warranty is in effect for 3 years (36 months) from the date your exterior project was finished. This term is a balance, reflecting the tough environmental conditions exterior surfaces face in our climate. The warranty automatically expires at the end of the 3-year period – we recommend periodic maintenance painting after that timeframe, as even the best paints can start to show age beyond a few years. (Note: some manufacturers offer longer paint film guarantees; we can discuss product-specific warranties where applicable, but our labor warranty is 3 years.) All warranty work must be requested and performed within the original warranty period.

Transferability: This warranty is offered to the original client and is tied to the project and property where the work was done. It is not transferable to new owners if you sell the property. It also does not apply to any new areas you might add or any changes made after our work (for example, if you build an addition that we didn’t paint, it wouldn’t be covered, obviously). If you are a property manager or strata, the warranty covers the work on the building but is still only honored to the party that contracted us (the strata council or management company) and is void if another painter repaints over our work. Essentially, we stand behind our work for you, but once ownership or responsibility changes, we can’t extend the guarantee automatically. However, we’re happy to discuss maintenance plans or extended care for new owners as a separate arrangement.
