Popcorn Ceiling Painting in Vancouver
Brighten tired, stained popcorn ceilings without the dust, cost and disruption of removal.
Don’t Scrape Your Popcorn Ceiling – Refresh It!
Popcorn ceilings were popular in Vancouver homes and condos for decades. Over time they turn yellow from cooking, smoke and sunlight. They also pick up water stains and patches that don’t match. Removing the texture is messy, slow and often needs drywall repairs afterward. A fresh coat of paint gives you a bright, clean ceiling for a fraction of the cost and disruption.
The benefits of painting your popcorn ceiling:
- Lower cost: no scraping, skim coating or drywall repairs.
- Less mess: far less dust than removal, and we protect and clean up your home.
- Stains blocked: a stain-blocking primer seals water, smoke and nicotine marks so they don’t bleed through.
- Brighter rooms: a flat white ceiling reflects more light and makes rooms feel bigger.
- Texture kept intact: we spray the ceiling, so the texture isn’t crushed or pulled down the way a roller can.

How We Paint Your Popcorn Ceiling
1. Free quote and colour consultation
We look at the ceiling, check for stains or damage and ask when your home was built. If it’s before 1990, we confirm the texture has been tested for asbestos before any work starts.
2. Protect your home
We move and cover furniture, then mask walls, floors, light fixtures and smoke detectors.
3. Prep the ceiling
We gently remove dust and cobwebs and patch small damaged spots with matching texture.
4. Prime where needed
Water, smoke and nicotine stains, and texture that has never been painted, get a stain-blocking primer.
5. Spray the finish
We cut in the edges by brush and spray an even coat of flat ceiling paint, which keeps the texture intact.
6. Clean up and walk through
We remove the masking, put your room back and walk the job with you before we leave.

Is Your Popcorn Ceiling Safe to Paint?
Homes built before 1990 may have asbestos in their popcorn ceilings. In Greater Vancouver, about a third of homes fall in that range, according to WorkSafeBC. Painting usually doesn’t disturb the texture, but scraping, sanding or patching can release fibres if asbestos is present.
That’s why we ask about your home’s age at the quote. WorkSafeBC says homeowners must have a qualified company test for asbestos before renovation work begins. If your ceiling hasn’t been tested, we’ll explain how testing works and wait for the result before any prep. If asbestos is found, removal must be done by a licensed abatement contractor, which B.C. has required since January 1, 2024.

Prefer a Smooth Ceiling?
If you want the texture gone for good, we also remove popcorn ceilings once testing confirms they’re asbestos-free. We scrape off the texture, repair dents and cracks, then prime and paint for a smooth, modern finish.
